One of my dogs woke me up at 2:30 and then again at 5. Bearded collies do not like thunder. I gave the dog some melatonin. Power had been going on and off for a while and then died at near 5 AM. The generator works and I had tv and internet. I watched the news and then went back to bed at 6 AM and was able to sleep until 9:15. The rain had stopped at my house. There are some weak gusts but no rain. My dogs went outside, and one got onto the grass.
I went outside and a lady and her child were walking near my house. She thought that we are in the eye. I am glad that she is wrong. It seems that I am past most of the issues except for some gusts and no power except the generator.
My oldest child is without power, but he has a generator. My oldest child is getting very heavy rain and wind. His weather system shows 6.75 inches of rain
No one at my firm can get onto the firm system. We are supposed to be able to get onto the system even when the building is without power.
I have some leaves in the yard but otherwise survived.

(4,237 posts)my friends and family in San Antonio and parts near north of there are spared, I'm assuming. Told hubby I think it's so smart for you guys down there to get generators. Good thoughts to you and your kids!

(5,169 posts)Texting my cousin that we still had power I now realize that was my first mistake. What trees the derecho didnt take out, Beryl did. Our house is ok, however theres signs of a slow leak from the roof, yay. Well be alright, but am worried about friends and family closer into Houston.
Yall stay safe, watch out for falling limbs wind and rain is still kicking up now and then here in the Conroe area. Cheers to the neighbors being good neighbors out there makes it easier to get through when folks come together.

(154,039 posts)I still do not have good cell phone service. I have a generator but was happy when power came back on at 3:20. I got internet and Tv at 6 pm but still not have cell service. I have a magicjack land line that is working and so I was able to call my kids and my sister/brother.
It turns out that I woke up during the eye.

Around 10 AM or so the wind pick up some and there were some sprinkles. The back side of the eye was far weaker than the leading edge of the eye.
It was interesting to be in the eye of a hurricane

(28,724 posts)We did all right. Lots and lots of fallen tree leaves and small branches. 2.2 million people without power---including 5 of our family members in the area; they stayed with us last night, enjoying our generator-sourced air conditioning.
Hope that's it for tropical storms in our area, this season.

(154,039 posts)I have a generator but my power came on yesterday at 3:20. There is a house a block or so over in a different section of the subdivision that has the generator still running this morning. My oldest has no power but he has a generator

(154,039 posts)With Greg's shitty grid, it makes sense to have a generator. My oldest just built a nice home in the Heights and he had a generator as part of the new home construction

(34,131 posts)"it's expensive" he says. Well, yeah, but so is all this food I'm throwing away every time. I think some of them do payment plans so I may be able to swing it with just my household budget. At this point we probably should. We're in Brazoria County and own our house. Will wait until after the season, though, I noticed they are not giving the discounts now that they were offering in the spring.

(154,039 posts)It is expensive but I am told that a generator adds to the value of the home. I hope that you do get a generator. It was nice not having to worry on Monday

(4,001 posts)because actual reception here. No power or cell at home 5 mi away. Power out since 6:10am Monday. At least 5 huge pines uprooted on my cul-de-sac alone. My pine in backyard teetering, watched it bounce in arms of sister oak tree during storm. Stray dogs roaming. No ice. Long lines for gas. Sweat. All good otherwise. My kids checking on me is a joy. For a Cat 1, this was awful.

(154,039 posts)The lines for gas at the filling stations near me were long until they ran out of gas.
The Koger next to me had lost power but had power yesterday. I saw them throwing out a ton of food and restocking

(4,001 posts)Power still out. Grandson brought me generator Wednesday evening. Chainsaws going non-stop for all downed trees. Corner gas stations and Kroger open yesterday. We're without power, but water stayed on. Granddaughter brought home ice from shift work she.picked up closer downtown Houston. This was a very messy destructive storm.

(34,131 posts)we not only lost power, but also the internet towers (ie data wasn't even working), and our water plants are on generator until Centerpoint gets its head out of its a** and actually starts repairing things.
We got power back yesterday and we were lucky - it hasn't gone out again (that has happened to folks as well). A lot of areas still without, it's slow going in terms of transportation because stoplights are not functioning, and one by one the gas stations are running out of gas.
