(3,510 posts)They are a deep red area. According to the article 120 other counties had reportable damage. Im not sure if it was Harris county is blue or incompetence. Just the power outages should have prompted Patrick to send in the request. To me its just another thing to show the republican leadership in our state are a bunch of idiots.
According to power outages US 1.5 million customers still dont have power. A lot of that area is red counties.
Yesterday I traveled from deep red Conroe Tx. To Louisiana. No electricity from there to well past IH 69. All deep red areas with tfg flags and vendors selling them by the side of the road

(34,131 posts)and it is still deep red. We bore the brunt of this after Matagorda & Galveston. The command center for Centerpointless (tm - some random graffiti artist who sure called it) is now set up in one of our local high schools.
That should have happened LAST week, and the "auxiliary partners" should've been on their way here, not called on Monday after they woke up and said "oh crap - it's really a hurricane".
eta - It's not simply incompetence - it is lack of preparation due to not spending money on infrastructure. If MAGA's actually had brains they would be poring over Project 2025 for the paragraphs where social security, veterans benefits, etc are all cut. And things like this storm show that when the electric goes down we lose cell connection too - which enables the owners to do whatever the heck they'd like because there is no one to call them on their lies until they are back online.

(101 posts)They would be absolutely crucified. Well honestly they would return to their state. But be roundly criticized for leaving in the first place.

(4,001 posts)BUT, I sit here in north Harris County hearing constant chainsaws and generators, knowing this Cat 1 Beryl was way worse than a lot of other storms. Our corner gas stations open yesterday, Kroger too but out of everything. This old survivor didn't plan ahead either, thought it would break up as usual after hitting land. Hell no. 6 huge trees alone on our little cul-de-sac hit 4+ houses, and my 3 story pine is strapped to the oak til we can get it cut down. No power here til mess cleared and busted houses checked. Grandson brought me generator Wed evening. I made hand mixed oatmilk for cereal. Join neighbors later for confab outside shade. Life is good.

(34,131 posts)it just kept turning north, with the warm water in the Gulf. I've seen so far 13 deaths attributed to the storm. I'm glad to know you have family looking out for you.
