https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2024/09/03/texas-ag-ken-paxton-warns-bexar-harris-counties-in-letter-over-proposed-voter-registration-form-plans/Commissioners in Bexar and Harris counties are considering using taxpayer funds to pay third-party vendors to mail voter registration forms to unregistered voters in their counties.
Paxton said the county commissioners would mail the forms without verifying whether the individuals are allowed to vote.
Paxton stated that the voter registration forms would inevitably go to people who arent verified to vote, like felons and undocumented immigrants. This might encourage them to register to vote, which is a crime.
Of course the mailings will emphasize all the rules about who can register and how. The people who register will still need to show their state-approved IDs when registering.
Hey, it's a new month! Have you verified your registration yet? Your county website or https://www.votetexas.gov/ will let you check your verification asap. October 7th is the last day to register for the November election!

(29,996 posts)I get mailers from them every election. We used their app in 2020. Their app "went out of business".
While it certainly is not illegal to do this, it is pretty much a waste of time and effort.
Here is their defunct voter registration app:

As to why a tech company would leave up a defunct URL is beyond me.

Help your neighbors register to vote.
MapTheVote aggregates publicly available data and provides analysis on locations that are likely to have unregistered, eligible voters living at them. The map is a guide to help coordinate and improve voter registration around the country. It has been built primarily by volunteers from many organizations, and is funded by Register2Vote and its founders. MapTheVote doesn't expose any personal data it's just a way for those who wish to register voters in their communities to more easily connect with potential voters.
