GOP Sen. Mike Lee is in a tight contest with independent Evan McMullin in the Utah Senate race: poll

For generations, Utah has been a Republican stronghold, consistently backing GOP presidential nominees and statewide officeholders.

However, the Senate race this fall could potentially shake up state politics in an unusual way, as incumbent Republican Sen. Mike Lee faces independent Evan McMullin in what could shape up as a proxy on the continued influence of former President Donald Trump throughout the Beehive State.

In the latest Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll, Lee earned the support of 41% of respondents, 36% backed McMullin, while 14% opted for another candidate. According to the poll, 8% of respondents said they were undecided.

Lee's job approval rating sat at 46%, with 47% disapproving of the two-term senator's performance and seven percent with no opinion.

1. Numbers wise it doesn't matter because McMullin would caucus with GOP

But he is not nearly as foul as Lee is.

3. McMullin is a lot more independent than you give him credit for.

He might vote for GOP issues, but he has a mind of his own, and many times he supports the issues the Democrats desire & vote for.

4. True. But Indy's must caucus with one party or the other.

As you know, we have two (Angus King and Bernie Sanders) that caucus with the Dems.
McMullin has been a Republican for most of his life.
Undoubtedly, he’d caucus with them.

Party which I think you have to do for committee assignments. Which he will do with republicans for sure But getting lee out would be sweet and lee may be key vote for some dems.. maybe
