Utah Co. counted more ballots than voters during the June 25 primary election. What happened?
ALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — After more ballots were counted in Utah County than the number of voters — and voter signatures were rejected at higher rates than the state’s average rejection rate — the Lieutenant Governor’s Office reviewed the county’s processes from the June 25 primary election.
“This review was prompted by concerns over reconciliation at Utah County polling locations and above average ballot signature rejection rates,” the review reads.
The review explained that, in reference to an in-person voting center, reconciliation means making sure the number of individuals who checked into a center matches the number of votes that were cast at that same center.
In its review of Utah County’s election process, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor found that 19 extra ballots were counted — in addition to finding issues with the “fast cast” voting system implemented in the county and issues regarding signature verification.
