Vermont on Thursday again broke a single-day COVID case record.
Vermont health officials reported 591 new cases and the percent positive rate has now climbed to 4.1%. The previous single-day record of 487 cases was reported last Thursday.
Officials this week warned that the state was projected to hit upwards of 500 cases daily within a month. Hospitalizations and deaths are also expected to remain high in the coming weeks.
There are currently 53 people hospitalized with COVID, 14 of them in the ICU.

(4,429 posts)I rarely see anyone around town without one. Schools are masking (I'm in VT).
The contributing causes, according to our health department, are that few experienced covid early on in the pandemic (so no immunity). Less than 3% of us were exposed last year.
We have an older population that all got vaccinated early (we were very compliant with vaccinations) and their protection is waning (they need boosters).
The Delta variant is more transmissible.
And (as you write) they also cite masks. And travel.
I'm not up North in the state, so I have no idea what is happening up there. But down here - we all have masks on.
Here's an article from the Burlington Free Press

(52,211 posts)graphs and found Vermont to be odd. The number of new cases and new DEATHS are rising at the same rate. Most states and countries that successfully fight Covid deaths have learned how to treat those who become infected. If people who are at risk are infected then I could see the high death numbers. Are they vaxxed, are they practicing social distancing, etc? Europe is soaring with new cases now, especially Western Europe and they say it is mainly due to relaxed social distancing and masking and low vax rates. Germany is seeing huge increases, 50,000 today alone.
