(18,174 posts)There has been no City Council action on bids for the removal or to allow someone to take it at their expense.
The next City Council Meeting is July 19, so maybe then. They approved one million dollars for the removal yesterday.

(18,174 posts)The tweets I linked have been deleted. They showed trees being cut down and severely trimmed as well as some street signs removed in the park that has the infamous R E Lee Statue in Charlottesville. The poster surmised that it was a prep for the removal of the statue. I guess he had second thoughts.
One million dollars was approved yesterday for the statue remove.
Here is my original post:
It appears that they are preparing to remove the statue that was the rallying point for the unite the right rally that had deadly consequences here in Charlottesville.
Edit to add: As far as I can determine, the city has not put out the removal task for bids. It may be that some entity has stepped up to take the statue and cover the expense, but the city council would still have to approve that action.
