Hundreds of people evacuated from partially derailed Metro train in Arlington
by 7News Staff Tuesday, October 12th 2021
WASHINGTON (7News) A Metro train partially derailed in Arlington around 5 p.m. Tuesday, which caused a suspension of train service between the Pentagon and Foggy Bottom stations. No injuries were reported and shuttle buses are available.
Arlington County Fire & EMS is assisting Metro with evacuating between 200 and 300 people from the train, which is in the tunnel between Rosslyn and Arlington Cemetery. Just one car was affected by the derailment, and there were about 25 people on that car.
7News cameras saw some of those passengers walking along the tracks toward the closest platform, Arlington Cemetery. The first ones started to arrive around 6:50 p.m. 7News cameras were there.

It's a 7000-series train. The train was headed from Rosslyn to Arlington Cemetery. That's the Blue Line. Service is suspended between Pentagon and Foggy Bottom.

It was train number 407.

Expect #WMATA to keep Blue circle service suspended between Rosslyn and Pentagon for the remainder of the day and possibly tomorrow depending if the train derailed immediately upon leaving Rosslyn and how much damage to the tracks there is.

As pointed out to me, these pax shouldn't be sitting in the dark. Part of the

investigation will likely cover response to the derailment and if this caused issues w/making announcements to pax, impacted emergency intercom/CCTV, etc. #wmata
