Prince Edward’s County, VA closed the schools for five years rather than comply with Brown. Five. Years. 101 Members of Congress signed the Southern Manifesto vowing to resist Brown by all legal means. Perhaps I should start a thread showing that “public acceptance”…..

WSJ edit page says that Brown vs Board of Education was “followed by public acceptance,” which is, as they say, news you won’t see anywhere else. https://wsj.com/articles/the-end-of-roe-will-be-good-for-america-supreme-court-draft-leak-decision-abortion-pro-life-choice-justices-alito-11651787057

My first year of my college experience I was friends with a guy from Farmville. Lived down the hall in the dorm. As everyone was getting to know each other he mentioned that he went to private school. We all thought “private school?” We had set ideas of who went to private schools. White people in Prince Edward county just went to private school. There was the rich private schools and ones (supported by the richer folks) for poorer whites. Black kids went to public school. That’s just the way it was.

I think it’s more integrated now but I’m pretty sure the private schools still exist.
