PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Gwen Walz, first lady of Minnesota and wife of Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz, will campaign in Prince William County on Friday at an event centered around educators. According to a press release from Harris’ campaign, Walz will appear in Manassas at an “Educators for Harris-Walz” event on Friday, Aug. 30.
Walz is a longtime educator who, according to Minnesota’s Office of the Governor, is extremely passionate about teaching.
“Throughout her career, Gwen has taught in public, alternative, and migrant schools – this has shaped her vision,” Walz’ bio reads. “For more than two decades, Gwen served as an administrator and coordinator in the Mankato Area Public Schools, working to eliminate the achievement gap and strive for more equity and access within education systems.
Gwen knows that a strong public education system, encompassing birth through senior citizens, is critical to empowering every Minnesotan to succeed.” Walz will be joined at this campaign event by local educators and labor leaders. According to the release, Walz will focus her comments on Harris’ and her husband’s campaign promises to educators.
“During the event, Mrs. Walz will highlight Vice President Harris and Governor Walz’s efforts to support educators and students – a sharp contrast with Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, which would eliminate the Department of Education, gut public education, and rescind student debt relief,” Harris’ campaign said in the release.
The location of the event was not specified, but RSVP information indicated it will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.
