Our daughter and son-in-law live in Harrisonburg and are looking to buy a house. They're looking at a home in Bridgewater tomorrow. I'm wondering about farm smells. I know there are lots of poultry farms and I think a pet food plant in the area.
Any info? Thanks

(8,823 posts)It is a small town with the college probably the big employer. We were there in Fall days a couple years ago. I do not remember any smells from farm or other but it was a SMALL town.

(8,823 posts)Has similar priced properties but has the university, a hospital, tourism is a neat town. My daughter lived there for 18 months and loved it there.
Bridgewater is a small town ant the outskirts do get rural quickly.

(5,124 posts)And if one lives in a rural area of VA, there is going to be farming and the associated aromas. Simply put, it comes with the terroir.
I would be more concerned about buying a house and property next to Jim-Bob MAGAt who has six broken down cars on the property that they never get to and insists on drunk shooting on the property during the weekends (quite common in rural VA). My wife and I say the two reasons people move out to the country in Virginia is to get away from the noise and mess, or to make noise and a mess.
My advice to your daughter and SIL if they are concerned about being near farming is look for a home in Bridgewater proper or Harrisonburg. Farm aromas shouldn't be an issue in either location.
We live in Bedford, land of the MAGATS.
