County clears permit hurdle for Cathcart park and ride

CATHCART — A park and ride near proposed new homes along Cathcart Way and Highway 9 cleared a major permit hurdle Tuesday.

Snohomish County proposed a park-and-ride lot with 154 spaces on former landfill property at the southwest corner of the intersection. Its address listed in permit documents is 8830 148th St. SE, Snohomish.

Housing developer D.R. Horton got the 16-acre property from the county in exchange for building the park and ride.

Some neighbors opposed the construction of 286 townhomes nearby, but their appeal of the residential development was dismissed in October. They also challenged the proposed park and ride over concerns about additional traffic not being considered, the impact to local wells and improper stormwater facilities.

Shouldn't there be bus service on highway 9 if you're going to build a park-and-ride there? What good is a park-and-ride if there is no bus service?

CT's 109 goes from Lake Stevens to the Ash Way P&R. It goes down highway then turns onto Cathcart Way towards I-5.

3. How about Hwy 9 south of Cathcart?

A park-and-ride on Cathcart Way makes sense to me now.

I have driven hwy 9 opposite the rush hour traffic many times. The only bus I have ever seen was one carrying Microsoft workers. If you live south of Cathcart, there is no public bus service to Woodinville, Bothell or Bellevue. None that I know of, anyway.

4. I remember, 40 years ago, driving up hwy 9

from Woodinville to Lake Cassidy, (north of Lake Stevens) and seeing just a handful of cars on the highway during the evening rush hour.

Now it's bumper to bumper in the morning and evening rush hours.
