United council, mayor send $970M housing levy to Seattle voters

Seattle voters will be asked to approve a $970 million affordable housing levy in November.

On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously approved the legislation, which Mayor Bruce Harrell on signed hours later.

The bill-signing was a celebration of over a year of public outreach and crafting of the levy on the Nov. 7 ballot.

There were smiles all around, cake was served, and Harrell and City Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda briefly hugged in a sign of a possible warming of the relationship between the city's executive and legislative branches.
