T-Mobile layoffs will affect hundreds of Bellevue employees, filing reveals
T-Mobile US Inc.'s (Nasdaq: TMUS) recently announced cutbacks will affect 401 workers based in Bellevue, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed Wednesday with the state of Washington.
Last week, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert told employees in a memo that due to the rising cost of acquiring and retaining customers, the company would be laying off about 5,000 of its 71,000 employees. Wednesday's filing indicated the Bellevue layoffs are expected to begin Oct. 24.
T-Mobile had 5,300 employees in Bellevue where it is headquartered, according to the city's 2022 annual comprehensive financial report. That was down from the 6,400 it reported in 2021, though no explanation has been given for the drop.
"Todays changes are all about getting us efficiently focused on a finite set of winning strategies, so that we can continue to out-pace our competitors and have the financial capability to deliver a differentiated network and customer experience to a continually growing customer base, while simultaneously meeting our obligations to our shareholders," Sievert said last week.
