City sues Martin Selig Real Estate for unpaid street-use permit fees

The city of Seattle is suing Martin Selig Real Estate over $172,000 in unpaid street-use permits at two sets of properties.

That a large, well-established company like Selig hasn't kept current on fees is reflective of the state of the office market. Demand for space has decreased as hybrid and fully remote work styles have taken root, leaving many landlords in cash-constrained positions.

One of the unpaid fees is for the Elliott Avenue pedestrian skybridge, which connects Selig's 3101 Western and 3131 Elliott office buildings, and the other is for a plaza and hillclimb from Fifth Avenue to Selig's 5th & Yesler tower.

"The complaint for monies due" was filed in King County Superior Court on Aug. 2.
