The 2023 housing levy renewal meets the moment

Housing is the cornerstone of community health, safety and well-being. Since 1986, the Seattle Housing Levy has stood as the city's most effective and essential source of funding for affordable housing, creating and preserving over 12,000 affordable rental homes and facilitating 1,000 homeownership opportunities throughout the city since its inception.

Additionally, the Housing Levy has consistently provided long-term and reliable support for the operation, maintenance and services required for permanent supportive homes.

Renewing the levy on the Nov. 7 ballot is paramount in addressing the urgent affordable housing needs of today and preparing for the future.

Just how significant is this need? The Washington Department of Commerce released projections that the city will need approximately 112,000 total new units over the next 20 years, with 44,000 of these units affordable at 30% area median income.
