EDMONDS Prepare for some sticker shock on the Edmonds-Kingston ferry route.
Starting May 1, roundtrip fare for a couple will be about $55.

The standard vehicle and driver roundtrip fare on that route is now $35.80, or $17.90 each way. It will increase to $44.50, or $22.25 each way. Passenger fare is $9.85, charged on the mainland side only.

The vehicle fee for Mukilteo-Clinton increases to $26.60 roundtrip, up from $21.50. One-way goes from $10.75 to $13.30. An option is to take the scenic route and drive around through Deception Pass, especially when wait times are long.

(1,732 posts)The ferry system is suffering from breakdowns, short staffing, low retention of experienced personnel, and a need for more boats and facilities. Those ferries are vitally important, and we need improvements fast, before the system falls apart.
Rode that ferry yesterday. Everything was fine both ways.

(11,543 posts)It will go up this summer, like it always does. But I seldom need to take my car across. I can cross the Sound and take link light rail to the airport for less than $11 round trip.
For less than $10 round trip, Mrs RC and I can go into the city for a concert and dinner. That's a pretty good value.
