Who makes money off vehicle registration in WA (it's privatized)?

Please enlighten me if anyone knows who owns/makes profit off vehicle registration in WA. It's privatized but despite extensive online searching I haven't been able to find out why this happened or who makes money from it. When I called the vehicle registration contact number and asked, the woman who answered the phone refused to answer, then hung up on me.

3. That was one of the points.

Bunches of those Tim Eyeman supported initiatives were put in place to provide rentier opportunities for business around the state. Outsource of government functions to private companies provides a steady stream of income for these companies. It was also a consequence of the $30 tabs to begin with. State funded school driving programs were closed, the private driving schools that sprang up took over the education and testing services.

4. Good question. I'm on Spokane's South Hill and there are three of the private licensing offices 10 minutes from.....

......my home. They are all in second or third tier commercial locations, so I would think that, well profitable, they are certainly not gold mines. When the state turned the sale of liquor over to private enterprise, a measure heavily promoted by the God of Kirkland (Costco), they were clever enough to raise liquor taxes to offset the loss of sales revenue to the state.

Cash or check only. Someone is milking this for all it's worth.

I'm a new resident of the state so not familiar with the history. Sounds as though this happened while a Republican was governor?

Regardless, apparently who actually owns and makes money from this is an unknowable mystery. There must be a way to find out, when I want to spend the time to do so.

7. I don't know who may own or run the licensing offices or how it's decided who gets the "franchise" from.....

.....the state. Good question. Neither the licensing or the change to liquor stores happened during a republican administration, we haven't had a Repub governor since 1985. The liquor thing happened after a public referendum with the voters going for the change, having been sold a bill of goods, by the aforementioned Costco, about convenience and lower costs. Prices went up almost immediately.

6. I believe they get a processing fee

Which is like five to fifteen dollars added to the cost of your registration.

You can also renew online and have it mailed to you. It's what I've always done.

8. That's what I do despite being surrounded by private enterprise outlets. The same fee goes to the county and....

....the new tabs usually arrive in 2-3 days.
