Return-to-office order now in effect for some at Seattle City Hall

Starting Monday over 100 white-collar workers at Seattle City Hall were back in their offices for most of the week by order of City Council President Sara Nelson.

The callback of legislative staffers was announced April 2, giving people time to adjust from a two-day-a-week requirement.

The legislative department is the first in the city to bring employees back and how it goes may inform how other employers navigate the evolving way office workers work.

Nelson believes "public service work should be done in public," and since she took office two years ago, said her office has been fully staffed in person. The scene is similar at the offices of her council colleagues, she added, noting many campaigned on running actual, not virtual, offices.
