Voters in Seattle appear poised to make a big change in their City Council representation this month by replacing appointed at-large Councilmember Tanya Woo with her more progressive challenger, activist and organizer Alexis Mercedes Rinck.
In a just-completed survey of 613 likely Seattle voters that fielded from October 28th through today, 52% of respondents said in the aggregate that they had or voted for Mercedes Rinck, while only 28% said they were voting for Woo. 6% said they didnt cast a vote in the city council race, 6% did not recall how they voted, 6% were not sure, and 2% said they would not be voting in the special election for the office.
No candidate who has received an outright majority in our polling has then gone on to lose their contest. So while these results arent predictive no poll results can be they do suggest that Mercedes Rinck will win handily, and maybe by a lot.
The gap between Mercedes Rinck and Woo is a whopping twenty-four points. Thats an enormous lead for a challenger to have, and it speaks to the dissatisfaction that Seattleites have with their current City Council. They may not have loved the last Council majority by the end of its run, but they like the new Council majority even less.

Tanya Woo never bothered to vote in local elections until 2021, as discovered by The Stranger when researching her voting record. When asked about it, she first said she was too busy. When that didnt go over well, she said, My people dont vote, throwing the Chinese and possibly the entire AA&NH/PI community under the bus.

I'd never vote for someone who stands for nothing.
