Washington's Cantwell headed for another term in U.S. Senate

Democratic incumbent Maria Cantwell has won a fifth term, beating Republican challenger Raul Garcia in the race to represent Washington in the U.S. Senate.

Cantwell had 59.8% of the vote while Garcia, a Yakima emergency room doctor, trailed with 40%, as of Tuesday night. An updated vote count is expected Wednesday.

The Associated Press called the election for Cantwell at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Cantwell has held the position since 2000. She is now on track to serve 30 years in the Senate.
