Justice announces plans for PEIA, teachers

CHARLESTON — A day after announcing record-breaking tax revenue collections, Gov. Jim Justice announced plans to shore up the state’s public employee health insurance program and promised additional raises next year.

Justice held a press conference Tuesday morning announcing the state will dedicate $100 million toward a long-term solution for fixing the Public Employees Insurance Agency.

Justice said the $100 million will stabilize PEIA, a program that up until recently was suffering for lack of funding.

“I promised you I’d find a way with the good help of a lot of others to fix PEIA,” Justice said. “This stabilization, this long-term solution, will give us the ability to stabilize PEIA going forward.”
