Author Dinesh D’Souza to keynote GOP dinner four days before federal sentencing

Can the WV GOP get any more ridiculous?

Author to keynote GOP dinner four days before federal sentencing
By David Gutman, Staff writer

Dinesh D’Souza, a conservative author and filmmaker who in May pleaded guilty to making illegal campaign contributions, will give the keynote speech the West Virginia Republican Party’s annual “Victory Dinner” in September.

D’Souza will speak at the fundraiser in Charleston on Sept. 19, four days before he is scheduled to be sentenced on one felony count of campaign finance law violation.

D’Souza is the author of several best selling books about conservatism and Christianity. His film, “2016: Obama’s America,” is among the highest-grossing documentaries of all time. It argues that the “anti-colonialist” views of President Barack Obama’s father help explain why Obama, in D’Souza’s view, rejects American exceptionalism and is trying to reshape America.

In May, D’Souza plead guilty to using “straw donors” to donate to the 2012 U.S. Senate campaign of New York Republican Wendy Long. - See more at: http://www.wvgazette.com/article/20140806/GZ01/140809559/1419#sthash.469vCOnG.dpuf

GOP House candidate to expected to repay church for campaign printing
By Eric Eyre, Staff writer

GOP House of Delegates candidate Charles Kinnison plans to reimburse a Randolph County church for the use of its copy machine to print political mailers, according to Kinnison’s latest campaign finance report.

In February, Kinnison listed the copying cost as an “in-kind” contribution from the Elkins Church of God Family Worship Center.

Kinnison, a member of the church, now lists the $240 copying expense under “unpaid bills” in his latest campaign filing. The money is owed to the Elkins church, according to the Jan. 30 campaign finance report.

On Tuesday, Kinnison said he revised his campaign report in response to questions about the church’s contribution. He said he was “unaware of any wrongdoing,” and no state agency contacted him about his February report.

Statehouse Beat: Raines saga grows stranger

Stranger and stranger is the best way to describe the saga of Delegate Suzette Raines, R-Kanawha.

On Tuesday, her attorney emailed a copy of her very overdue financial disclosure form to the state Ethics Commission, but interim executive director Rebecca Stepto said it is not valid, since it lacks an original signature.

The email was transmitted just two days before Raines was to vacate a rental house at 8 Roller Road in Charleston — the address listed as her place of residence on the disclosure form.

Obviously, Raines could not sign the form using that address, since submitting false information on a financial disclosure form is a misdemeanor that carries a fine and possible one-year jail term. (Oddly, failure to file the form is also a misdemeanor, but is punishable by fines but no possible jail time.)

But then how many documentaries (and especially political documentaries) ever get wide-scale theatrical releases to begin with?

In addition, it was heavily promoted over at the Glenn Beck end of things and presumably pulled in a niche audience. It wasn't well-received either by reviewers or among the general movie-going public.

It is number 4, according to Box Office Mojo. But it's beaten out by a liberal documentary that's earned three and a half times more, marching penguins, and Justin Bieber -- both of which earned twice as much!

since there wasn't a trial. I guess there's not enough coming in from his movie or book sales.

P.S. Does being in jail require that you still make alimony payments?

Here’s a statement from WV GOP Party Chairman Conrad Lucas, with more information available here:

“Dinesh D’Souza’s conservative message is a tremendous and timeless one on the past glories of our nation and what we must do to preserve it for the sake of freedom worldwide,” said West Virginia Republican Chair Conrad Lucas. “I was honored to see him speak in college at Vanderbilt. He is a true champion of the conservative cause in America.”

We regret to announce that we have cancelled the previously scheduled event for September 19.

Republicans need a guy like D'Souza to show then how to break the law and Not get caught. Just like a new criminal learns from older criminals the VA GOP is looking for a pro to show them how to cheat in elections if they can't get minorities barred from voting. D'Souza is a criminal and should be shunned by society and jailed.
