Kenosha Police Officer Avoids Charges in Jacob Blake Shooting

The Kenosha, Wisconsin, police officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back seven times won’t face criminal charges, District Attorney Michael Graveley said.

”If you do not have a case you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt as you’re going to hear me talk about, then you’re ethically obligated not to charge such a case,” Graveley said at a Tuesday news conference. “The question to a jury would be did Officer Sheskey reasonably believe that the shooting at Jacob Blake was necessary to prevent being stabbed by him or necessary to prevent someone else from being in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm.”

Officer Rusten Sheskey repeatedly shot Blake on Aug. 23 as he tried to enter a vehicle with his children inside, after an unsuccessful attempt to arrest him, according to a report by state Attorney General Josh Kaul. Police had been called to the scene by a woman who reported that Blake, whom she referred to as her boyfriend, wasn’t permitted on her property.

Blake admitted to possessing a knife at the scene, according to the Kaul report. Benjamin Crump, a Blake lawyer, said the incident left his client paralyzed.

When people will just assume the police are criminal in intent - and just shoot at them with the same degree of disregard as they seem to have for others?

as has happened in almost every police shooting case.
This tragedy will be no different. We see more civil awards being justified by the courts, and this case has too much evidence to prove police took actions beyond a normal, safe manner.

The city of Kenosha will have to pay the family damages.

With more civil cases being won, we should see legislative reforms, and we will in many states and possibly at the federal level.

Unfortunately, we are in Wisconsin, whose legislative branch is gerrymandered by Republicans and they have shown how they operate. They are likely to create more voting restrictions, hindrances and obstructions.
Wisconsin's GOP Trumpies are a dangerous lot, and we must purge them from our government, our society and our businesses. We do not have any need for any of 'those kinds of people'.
Wisconsin will not get preferential treatment by the Biden administration until the gerrymandering is gone and Republicans are replaced with logically thinking legislators in 2022 and 2024.
Sen Ron Johnson is up in 2022 as is the entire State Assembly, and one third of the State Senate is also up in 2022.

Now is the time, to create our 'Stacy Abrams' activists and get moving.
