Related: About this forumMy daughter's current employer issued this statement regarding the mask mandate. Thank you, L'Etoile
We have decided to continue requiring masks to ensure our employees and all those who visit are taken into consideration and protected. We hope everyone understands and respects our decision. We are excited for all the new dishes, desserts, and individuals that will be joining us in house this summer!

(3,605 posts)That was before Odessa Piper sold L'Etoile. Happy that the new owners continue with her tradition of using foods from local farmers and caring about people and the environment.
Always loved that restaurant ❤️

(2,272 posts)Isn't that it in a nutshell? That completely sums up the difference between maskers/vaxxers and anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers. The first group cares about others and the planet. The latter group cares about themselves. Period.

(10,533 posts)With 40% not vaccinated the risks can be mitigated but not eliminated.

(9,991 posts)versus: Our local King Soopers grocery chain (Kroeger) has dropped all mask requirements. Small wonder the Safeway stores are very busy..............
I dug down into an old desk drawer and drug out my pin from the 60's, and wear it everywhere.......

(5,170 posts)People that are vaccinated are a dead end for the virus. Even if they get it (which over 98% of positive tests are from unvaccinated), they don't pass it on. So there is no need for the vaccinated to wear a mask. Whether they do or not is not going to change the progress.

(159,435 posts)I am continuing to mask in stores, as are 90% of the people around me.
DONE here

(5,170 posts)and they aren't a danger to you.
Now, the problem is that people who aren't vaccinated are getting rid of the masks and they can spread it to others that aren't vaccinated. But, all indications are that as someone vaccinated, you are a dead end for the virus. You won't spread it.
If you think the all caps "DONE" is somehow convincing and overrides the science, you would be wrong. But, hey, if you want to wear a mask, have at it. I still do too for some weird reason I can't explain, honestly. But you don't need to based on what we know at this point.

(8,655 posts)I have not seen the science behind the "dead end" that you claim and have never heard immunologists or the CDC make such a claim. It makes no sense to me that if I'm one of the 2% who were vaccinated who catches COVID-19 anyway, that I could not pass that on. I'd love a link to studies that show such a thing.
Regardless of all the reasons to still wear a mask beyond vaccination, we don't have this thing quashed. There is a high probability for other variants to develop in other countries, if not here. I care for a 4mo baby and have a 9yo grandson who will be spending a month with me this summer. For them, I will be taking zero chances. Masks all around when we go out in public and no "dining in."
Before you get started, I thoroughly believe in science. I also believe there is still much we don't know in a virus that has only been around for 18 months and continues to evolve.

(5,170 posts)I'm fine with people wearing masks if that is what makes them feel better. But we have science telling us things. We need to act with confidence in that or we are no better than the "I don't believe I have to wear a mask even though the CDC tells me I should" crowd. That said, I haven't stopped wearing a mask at stores for some reason I have no clue about. So I get it. But I admit it's my own problem and not science.

(8,655 posts)Not getting sick for 18 months has been the biggest boon. Not needing to have conversations with people I know because they don't recognize me when I'm on a deadline. Not pissing people off with my resting bitch face. Etcetera.
Thanks for the link.

(8,655 posts)"So even though there are breakthrough infections with vaccinated people, almost always the people are asymptomatic and the level of virus is so low it makes it extremely unlikely not impossible but very, very low likelihood that they're going to transmit it," Fauci said.
As I said, I'm not going to take chances with a 4mo and an unvaccinated 9yo with autism.

(11,791 posts)The "safe" part is more or less painless, despite what some would have you believe. The "sorry" part is more painful than anyone wants to experience.
We have been living under some pretty strict conditions - what the Health Authority has been calling a "circuit breaker." Lots of whining from the Usual Suspects, but most people accept it with pretty good grace, and some people are enthusiastic.
We have dropped the "Active" case numbers in our zone of about 400,000 people from 270 to 34 in the last 2 months. That is a pretty good result.
