The statewide labor shortage could last years. Here's how employers, workers can still succeed
To understand how much the statewide labor shortage has changed the jobs market, look no further than a recent job fair to hire workers for expansions of Pierce Manufacturing's production plants in Neenah and Fox Crossing.
The Oct. 14 job fair was a first step in the manufacturer of fire trucks' effort to hire 200 assemblers, welders, electricians and painters to to join its workforce of about 3,000.
Pierce touted competitive pay, health and well-being services and matching retirement contributions as most major employers do now. And the company highlighted another incentive: $10,000 in educational reimbursement per year for employees working toward a college degree.
Job-seekers could show up from mid-morning at the company's training facility on Oct. 14 to apply, and it didn't matter if applicants didn't have much experience. It conducted interviews and drug tests on the spot to speed up the candidate review process.

and the cashier said, "We're closing in 3 minutes! There's no one to work the late shift."
I'm so used to everything being open 24 hours. Eventually the employers are just going to have to realize they can make more money paying better and staying open....
I do wonder if the current employees get a raise when the starting pay goes up so much.
Several places here are offering starting bonuses, like $1000. I'm tempted. 
My own employer is being stubbornly ungenerous!
