SPOTLIGHT RACE: Duane Shukoski for WI-AD53
Duane Shukoski is a lifelong Neenah resident who, alongside his wife Wendy, has raised their three sons here, all of whom attended local public schools. With deep roots in the community and two granddaughters now benefiting from the same schools, Duane’s commitment to Neenah is personal and profound. Growing up in the foster care system and being raised by the supportive community around him, Duane developed a deep passion for giving back, which drives his commitment to public service. Stepping out of retirement, he is running for the Assembly District 53 to champion critical issues that impact his neighbors and friends.
After a distinguished 37-year career at Kimberly-Clark, where he rose from a union production operator to an environmental leader, Duane is ready to bring his experience and dedication to public service. Growing up in a union household in the Fox Valley during the 60s and 70s, he knows firsthand the power of unions to secure fair wages and benefits. Duane is committed to repealing anti-union legislation like Wisconsin Act 10 and enacting new measures to improve the lives of workers across the state. His belief that a healthy workforce is essential to a strong economy drives his unwavering support for unions and economic stability for all.
In 2012, Duane became an Environmental Coordinator for three Neenah plants, leading them to achieve Green Tier status for exceptional environmental practices. Working closely with the Department of Natural Resources, he demonstrated his ability to implement effective sustainability initiatives. Duane aims to continue this vital work in the public sector by eliminating cancer-causing pollutants from tap water and ensuring sustainable environmental practices throughout Wisconsin.
His commitment extends to advocating for women’s reproductive rights and ensuring adequate funding for public schools. Duane believes that reproductive decisions should be made by women and their healthcare providers, not politicians, and he is dedicated to restoring these rights. Having experienced the public education system firsthand as a student, parent, and grandparent, he understands the importance of well-funded schools and the critical role educators play in student success. With his extensive experience, deep community ties, and unwavering dedication, Duane Shukoski is the candidate who cares about Wisconsin and is ready to serve the people of Assembly District 53 with energy and commitment.
