SPOTLIGHT RACE: Yee Leng Xiong for WI-AD85

Yee Leng’s life story is one woven with threads of dedication, advocacy, and unwavering service to his community. Born in Wausau and raised in Weston, Yee’s journey began with a strong foundation in the DC Everest School District, where he graduated in 2012. From that point on, Yee embarked on a lifelong mission to champion the needs of the people around him.

In 2014, Yee’s commitment to education and community welfare led him to be elected to the DC Everest School Board, where he advocated for children’s rights and ensured that the school district remained accessible while providing top-tier education, all the while keeping taxes at a minimum. Today, he continues to serve as the board vice president, a testament to his enduring dedication to the betterment of educational opportunities for all.

Yee’s impact expanded further in 2016 when he secured a position on the Marathon County Board of Supervisors, representing District 19. As a member of the Board and the Human Resources, Finance, and Property Committee, he became a stalwart advocate for local businesses and the University of Wisconsin system, striving to enhance county recruitment efforts to attract the best and the brightest. In addition to chairing the transportation coordinating committee, where he oversaw funds for elderly and disabled transportation services, Yee also chaired the social services board, amplifying the quality of services for children with disabilities. As a County Supervisor, Yee continued to advocate for mental health services in schools and bolster public safety measures, including expanding a 911 dispatch line, funding law enforcement equipment, and fostering and enhancing relationships between law enforcement and public safety providers, and the community.

Yee’s commitment to transparency and accountability was further showcased in 2018 when he was elected to the Village of Weston Board of Trustees. There, he pushed for live-streaming board meetings, advocated for financial accountability through bidding and request-for-proposal processes, and explored alternative revenue sources for the village’s projects. As chair of parks and recreation, Vice Chair of Public Safety, and a member of the Everest Metro Police Department Joint Finance Committee, Yee continued his tireless efforts to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the community he passionately serves.

Yee’s inspirational journey as a non-profit executive is a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence and community impact. With a sharp focus on fiscal responsibility and accountability, Yee ensured that every grant received under his stewardship generated metrics and deliverables that far surpassed initial investments. His frugality, coupled with a deep-seated eagerness to collaborate and uplift the community, played a pivotal role in transforming his non-profit organization from a modest budget of $100,000 to a remarkable achievement of over $1.5 million.

Yee’s exceptional leadership not only heralded financial growth but also translated into tangible, meaningful change within the communities he served. Through his visionary approach and relentless dedication, Yee exemplifies the transformative power of strategic planning, responsible stewardship, and a genuine passion for making a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.

Yee intends to bring the same ideology to the State Assembly district, ensuring transparency, fiscal conservatism, and return on investment.

Yee commits to being a determined and independent advocate who prioritizes the needs of the constituents in the 85th Assembly.
