Wyoming lawmakers want study on gender wage gap

CHEYENNE – Two Wyoming lawmakers from opposite ends of the political spectrum are asking the Legislature to authorize an in-depth study of the state’s gender wage gap.

Rep. Cathy Connolly, D-Laramie, is hoping the study will provide more evidence for the wage gap, while Rep. Marti Halverson, R-Etna, says the study will disprove the gap.

Both women are co-sponsoring House Bill 209, which was advanced unanimously from the House Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee – comprised entirely of male lawmakers – on Friday.

The gender wage gap refers to the disparity between wages of male and female workers.
