Abortion ultrasound bill passes Senate

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Senate passed a bill Monday morning that would require doctors to offer an ultrasound to patients seeking abortions.

Senators did not debate House Bill 182. The measure would also require doctors to ask patients if they want to hear a fetus’ heartbeat.

The bill passed the third of three votes in the Senate. It already passed the House. Before the bill is sent to Gov. Matt Mead for a possible signature, the House will need to review a change the Senate made to the bill last week.

Senators removed a provision requiring the doctor to obtain a signed confidential statement from the woman that she was offered the ultrasound.
