OTTAWA—Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative leadership campaign paid for the lawyer who helped a whistleblower bring down archrival Patrick Brown, the Star has learned.
The whistleblower’s allegation that Brown broke election law ultimately led to him being disqualified from the race last July, transforming the leadership contest into a coronation for Poilievre, who won a decisive first-ballot victory last September.
Brown and Poilievre were at each other’s throats for the first five months of the leadership campaign.
When he was kicked out, he blamed Poilievre’s team and race organizers, arguing the Conservative establishment just didn’t want him to win. Poilievre’s team rebuffed any accusations of responsibility, pointing to the sheer size of its membership sales as proof that Poilievre’s victory was all but certain.

as someone shone a bright light in his face. "CAUGHT!!!" I hope Poilievre gets nailed for this. He is the master of making a scandal out of a molehill. He tries to do that to Trudeau at every question period.
