We don't need C-51, we DO need a decrease in the budgets of CSIS and the RCMP among other agencies. The chasing of low hanging fruit of all persuasions doesn't help Canadian security, nor our allies. There are laws in place to deal with these so-called threats, if an increase of powers is somehow deemed necessary they have to follow with an increase in accountability and oversight.
Take it from someone who was wrongfully and purposely misrepresented; there is a tonne of BS being shoveling by the RCMP and CSIS among other police agencies (especially by the RCMP who have constantly been chastised for lying by judges and by civil right groups). With zero recourse or accountability, even when one has a great amount of detail about the situation there is little they can do but contact partner nations and advise them of the truth, not the fluff.
