Someone who spends time in prison for a wrongful conviction deserves some sort of compensation even if it can't make up for what they lost.

Sadly now'a'days accusations fly quickly, police massage evidence and testimony, prosecutors are unscrupulous, the justice system favors the wealthy, the prison system is a jungle, the appeal system is nebulous, the parole system is subject to political whims, and at the end of it all, pardons are too expensive to those who need them, and there are financially and socially broken falsely accused and or convicted people whose reputations are shattered with no support, or compensation.

I think we must adopt changes that automatically charge false complain-tees, criminally charge (zero tolerance) cops who lie or fabricate testimony, same with prosecutors who have reason to doubt the strength of their case, but 'make it work'.

Our 21st century rehash of 'tough on crime' is thoughtless and draconian and politically driven, It is also driven by armies of lawyers, and police and prison unions, and other lobbyist groups such as Madd, for Example.
