The Harper government is signalling its intention to use hate crime laws against Canadian advocacy groups that encourage boycotts of Israel.
Such a move could target a range of civil society organizations, from the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Quakers to campus protest groups and labour unions.

The recent results in the UK show just how pathetic members of these neo-liberal parties have become. One of my favorite trial transcripts ever. My favorite of many exchanges in it:

Mayor. That conscience of yours would cut my throat.

Bush. No, my lord, it never shall.

Mayor. But I will cut yours so soon as I can.

Agreed, only a trial for unlawful assembly, not for hate speech, but their heart was in the right place.
