Church of Scientology owes City of Toronto over $100k in property taxes

As someone retweeted on my Twitter feed today:

Scientology owes the city 100k in back taxes, so I guess we should raise TTC fares again

Ain't that the truth. My only hope is that the city is as diligent going after any other back-tax-owing corps with that prime real estate in the downtown.

1. The CoS-parishioners will pay that, not CoS.

About a year ago I read an article how CoS fleeces its members. They get asked to donate to support a local project of CoS... and then most of the money goes to the higher echelons of CoS and little to the local project.

2. I think it's like a pyramid scam

Though I haven't watched that new documentary about them, yet. I've heard it's really excellent. They fleece the members but usher celebrities into the higher echelons as a recruiting tool.

3. I believe it's worse than that

They'll hit on some people to pay the money or a major part thereof. What they don't tell those people us that they are also hitting on other people to pay it. So, you might get 4 or 5 people "paying" the bill with the CoS pocketing the extra cash.
