(54,357 posts)and, all too often, this is the end result. There is still a 'wink and a nod' to men on the part of the authorities, reports minimizing the violence and, as in this case, staying the charges multiple times.
I have a relative that works in law enforcement specifically with domestic violence victims and she finds the courts really frustrating. Even when the police back the women 100%, the courts drop the ball often.

(54,357 posts)when the rare conviction occurs, the sentence is often a grotesque slap on the hand. It is infuriating.

(15,229 posts)signing that order, he was clearly bating them, challenging them... expressing his fathomless contempt for the law.
In a more nuanced system, he and anyone who publicly threatened to kill a woman should be imprisoned for the rest of his life. If necessary - a threat to use others, while in prison - placed in permanent, solitary confinement without visitors at all.
