Ontario Conservative candidate touts therapies to turn gay youth straight

Source: The Globe and Mail

A Conservative candidate in suburban Toronto is defending therapies that attempt to turn gays straight, having penned an editorial that referred to homosexuality as “unnatural behaviour” and heterosexuals as “normal.”

Jagdish Grewal, running in Mississauga-Malton, wrote an editorial in the Punjabi Post earlier this year entitled, “Is it wrong for a homosexual to become a normal person?”

... NDP Leader Tom Mulcair called for Grewal to be removed as a candidate. “The homophobic statements from the CPC candidate in Mississauga-Malton are unacceptable and Stephen Harper must remove him immediately,” Mulcair tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

... A campaign pamphlet recently spotted in the riding, with the fine print, “Authorized by the official agent for Jagdish Grewal,” features a picture of Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne at the Toronto Pride parade. The slogan reads, “Are these the priorities of your family?”

I've noticed in the last few weeks, since identity politics has come to the fore, many of the comments at the CBC site have gone from combative and cheap to downright ugly. I think the conservative elements in Canada feel emboldened.

"identity politics" used instead. I loathed Harper before this blatant appeal to the ugliest racists now I don't even have a word to describe how I feel about him and his cabal. Racist Canadians have been given the nod to come out with the ugliest behavior. It truly makes me nauseous.
