"SNIP..............
The mother of one of my childrens classmates of Pakistani origin asked me why my kids sang the Canadian national anthem when it is haram, forbidden, Raza wrote. Upon asking where she got that information, she confessed that the imam of the local mosque had told the congregation that it was against the faith to sing the national anthem, or, indeed, to show loyalty to Canada. Raza said she also found evidence that more mosques were giving sermons against loyalty to Canada.
Raza and her colleagues flew to Washington, D.C. after the San Bernardino shootings last week and nailed a Declaration of Muslim Reform on the biggest mosque in the districtsaying the time has come for moderate or secular Muslims to speak up and no one in the U.S. is doing it right.
This is the tipping point, Raza said. Moderate Muslims have to speak up. This fundamentalism and extremism is not Islam. We have to name it and shame it. Its up to the Muslims to do it.
And in Canada, it would seem, that need is especially urgent.

see the spread of a religion that goes against women's rights. I also speak out against the Catholic Church and it's policy on birth control. Fortunately the Catholic Church doesn't have the sway to keep birth control out of the hands of Canadian women. But they do try and persuade with pamphlets promoting 15 child families. I'm not saying it should be illegal for wahhabiism mosques to be funded in Canada but I do think we should have a discussion about it. When woman had to work so hard against churches to get rights, I don't think we should give them all away without some discussion. I was talking to someone during the canadian election who was born and raised in the middle east. I asked who he supported. He said the NDP were way too naive and kind and it scared him that an NDP government would get eaten alive by the other parts of the world. Saudi Royals have ****ed up the US for generations. And look at their politics and how the GOP in the USA have copied the Saudis. I think we should discuss a religion 'recreated' by a few men to give themselves unlimited political power and oil riches. I don't think we should be naive. I get a facebook feed every day of iranian women who upload pictures of themselves onto it.. without their hijabs. Called My Stealthy Freedom. As a woman I insist on a national discussion. Not because I or my family would be in danger of losing rights immediately. But some people may. And wahhabiism is a state invented and state sponsored religion.
Saw a Ted Talk. It talked about nations and how you secure democracy and human rights first and foremost, and then culture is the gravy on top. But you need strong institutions at the base. I want our human rights and democratic institutions strong. That i want to discuss too. Including income tax which pays for strong and stable rights and stops graft and oligarchy. The Saudis don't pay income taxes. The US picked up on it and now Cruz is running first or second in the polls with the promise he will abolish the IRS. There goes all your human rights institutions and middle class. And the Saudis taught the American right wing how to do it. I think I have a right to speak out on trends that scare me. It is what democracy is all about. And it is messy to have a discussion. But that is democracy. And there is good and bad in everyone and in every religion.

(9,688 posts)It claims that Canadian Muslims are secretly taught to hate Canada in their mosques.
It claims that Canadian Muslims are taught that it's forbidden to sing the Canadian national anthem.
It claims that the US/Canadian border is a problem because of a Canadian Muslim threat.
Your OP is written by a US American "journalist" based in Paris, France - who writes hearsay and totally made up nonsense in opposition to the direction our new Prime Minister is taking, starting the long process of ramping down the pro-war_on_terror hysteria that has fueled so much hate, war and death over the past 14 years.
I'm a Canadian and I live in a very multicultural (Canada is an explicitly multicultural country) area of one of our larger cities. I'm surrounded by Jewish/Muslim/Christian/Atheist/Buddhist/Jain/Sihk/etc. people, all of whom live and interact in harmony. I'm surrounded by Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, German, Norwegian, British, French, Iranian, Russian, Pakistani, Indian, First Nations, ...., people, all living and working together in harmony, making this a good place to bring up our families. When I knock on doors for my candidate at election time I'm met with grace by near all residents, regardless of their cultural background.
I totally resent your divisive, war mongering, fear mongering OP. Your portrayal of Muslims as secretly out to destroy Canada, as taught in their mosques. You have no idea how much I resent the politics of hate that brought the neverending Afghanistan war, the Iraq war, the war on Libya, on Syria, on Yemen, and I wince when people claim that the war isn't a war of choice and isn't already happening. Esp. when they post anti-muslim war propaganda while flying Hillary's banner.
As someone who left the US 10 years ago for Canada, I also deplore this racist crap.

(9,688 posts)I'm getting on in years and can remember the days of US draft dodgers coming up and settling down in our safe haven. Perhaps not a coincidence that those were the years of Pierre Trudeau, who wasn't much liked by the warmongers to the south.
They, the draft dodgers, brought their energy and ideals and they were an inspiration for me - a young kid who learned that peace could be glorious. More glorious than racist wars of conquest, that's for sure.
And now it's like the USA hasn't learned anything in all that time, but is worse than ever. Not even bothering to do body counts. One thing is almost universal when I talk to random people, everyone seems to agree that the US is fucking crazy. That it makes no sense at all anymore.

(4,320 posts)was accepted. It was easier for me with my language the same. I never regretted my choice. Canada is the best country for me. Most of us Canadians think "we are all on the boat together" and are kind and sharing.
True the USA has much to learn. I remember the civil rights era as well. It seems some want to go backward. At least half of America elected President Obama. I have hope.
Canada is going into a wonderful era now after the dark times of Harper.

(4,320 posts)My kids grew up in a Multicultural Canadian neighborhood. I have friends from all religions. I love the diversity.
My father-in-law always said "the pen never refuses ink" as this US American "journalist" wrote a very biased article.
It is so good I know there are like minded Canadians as me who are welcoming the Syrian refugees.

(123,127 posts)worry about evangelical Christian missions in Canada. Which are Republican sponsored state religion. We need to talk about it all.

(123,127 posts)the iman was a problem that he be replaced? Cause that happened. At it was the muslim community that put it in gear. Sometimes people are problems. Sometimes state sponsored religion is a problem. I'm saying discuss. We've avoided much radicalization because our multicultural communities are so integrated compared to Europe. What happens when they don't want to integrate and there are people out there wanting to exploit that? Cause there are bad people in the world.

Islam. Even Fareed Zachariah said everybody is both good and bad, religion too. I just don't think religion that is state sponsored from an outside state should get a free pass in another country building up grievances there. I would put republican sponsored evangelical churches that March into Canada and buy million dollar estates is a problem too.

(2,161 posts)Wahhabi Islam needs to be excised from mosques worldwide, including in the US and Canada.
Wahhabism is the theological foundation of ISIS. I refuse to pretend it is a 'religion of peace.'
I'd like to see some Democrats call out the Saudi Wahhabis as the German vice-chancellor has:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2015/12/08/a-german-official-becomes-one-of-saudi-arabias-most-prominent-critics/
Over the weekend, Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel was quoted as saying: "From Saudi Arabia, Wahhabi mosques all over the world are financed. Many Islamist threats come from those communities."
