Related: About this forumBrexit Secretary hadn't realised how important Dover-Calais is for trade with the EU
"We are, and I hadn't quite understood the full extent of this, but if you look at the UK and if you look at how we trade in goods, we are particularly reliant on the Dover-Calais crossing.
"And that's one of the reasons why, and there's been a lot of controversy about this, but one of the reasons why we wanted to make sure that we have a very specific and very proximate relationship with the EU to ensure frictionless trade at the border, particularly for just-in-time manufacturing goods whether it's pharmaceutical goods or perishable goods like food."
"I don't think it's a question so much of the risk of major shortages but I think probably the average consumer might not be aware of the full extent to which the choice of goods that we have in the stores are dependent on one or two very specific trade routes."

Trump: "Most people dont even know Lincoln was a Republican ..." "Nobody knew that health care could be so complicated ..." yadayadayada.
Along with the importance of Dover-Calais, the potential flashpoint of the Good Friday Agreement, the difficulties of trading under WTO terms, the desperate need for freedom of movement to get our crops picked and our NHS staffed and any number of other issues that make a no deal a non-starter were well known before the vote, let alone before Article 50 was so rashly triggered.
But they were all dismissed as "Project Fear", and everything was going to be oh so easy, wasn't it?

(303 posts)was foisted on the Brits the same way Trump was pushed on Americans. The billionaire Mercers financed most of the lies and bullshit in Trumps campaign and they played a huge role in Britain's Brexit vote. The Billionaires around the world have so much money now, they are working to destroy Democracies and set up Fascist Regimes in its place. It is no coincidence that Brazil, the USA, Hungary, Poland, Italy and others are now under Right Wing Governments. France and Germany just barely fought off the Nationalist wave. If Trump is allowed to keep breaking norms and laws we will be inches from a Corporate Fascist Country. The Christian Right, neo-Nazi Nationalists and run- of-the-mill racists are pitching in and helping destabilize our Country.
Hopefully if our Military is called upon for "Police work" they will have the fortitude to stand up to Cheeto Mussolini.
