Anna Soubry too frightened to speak at London event as scores of pro-Brexit counter-protesters hurl abuse

Crowds gathered outside Downing Street to protest against Boris Johnsons coup against the democratic process and hear combative speeches from anti-Brexit campaigners and opposition politicians on Saturday.
However, scores of pro-Brexit counter-protesters attempted to disrupt the rally and provoke those assembled, marching through the crowd holding a banner demanding the UK reverts to WTO rules, which some believe would be the default eventuality after a no-deal Brexit, and insulting the anti-Brexit demonstrators.
The anti-Brexit MP Anna Soubry said she was too frightened to speak due to their presence and left the demonstration after consulting with the police and organisers. Im a parliamentarian and I have a right to speak and I shouldnt be frightened, she said, but its very, very, very disturbing, and Im very frightened actually.
The shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott, who was escorted away from the rally by police after addressing the crowds, said it had been a bad week for Boris Johnson and that it was going to get much worse.

(102,478 posts)( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Robinson_%28activist%29 , if you don't know of him). Since he is too extreme even for Nigel Farage, and has convictions for violence, fraud, and illegal entry into the USA, anyone supporting him has no morals. UKIP used him as an adviser, and tore itself apart about it. While his main purpose is being anti-Islam, the overlap with "do anything to get out of the EU with No Deal as the best way" is considerable, especially, I'd think, those contemplating violence.
A US tech billionaire, Robert Shillman, financed a fellowship that helped pay for Robinson to be employed in 2017 by a rightwing Canadian media website, the Rebel Media, on a salary of about £5,000 a month.
A small Australian rightwing group, Australian Liberty Alliance, says it has helped fund Robinson, but did not disclose how much.
A New York City-based thinktank, the Gatestone Institute, has published a succession of articles supporting Robinsons cause.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center (DHFC), a California-based thinktank that describes itself as a school for political warfare, has published a series of pieces defending Robinson, and has lobbied for him to address US politicians.

Nick Ryan, of campaign group Hope Not Hate, said Robinsons message was being amplified by a powerful international network of anti-Muslim figures, from Donald Trumps former strategist Steve Bannon to the leader of Ukip.
Writing for The Independent, he said American anti-Islam commentator Pamela Gellar had provided him financial support and the alt-right website Breitbart lobbied Donald Trumps ambassador for international religious freedom lobbied the British government over Robinsons case.
