RIP those victims of the overall lorry people smuggling operation which led to the death of 39.
As we have a Prime Minister that used the murder of Jo Cox to justify a hard Brexit the fact that these poor victims where smuggled through Wales - which means they must have gone through Ireland - to the mainland will be music to this Tory Administrations ears. What a way to justify a wet border, stop people smuggling across the Islands
If only Brexit had already happened something like this would have been stopped.. It is not that they would have wished this happen, of course not, but as it has... hhhmmmm
Boris and Pritti say they are shocked and saddened so we should probably give them an hour before they start using this incident for political purposes .. because they are literally that vile.

(14,800 posts)The lorry came from Bulgaria to Grays via Holyhead, which is a bizarre route. The police need to find answers to many questions, one of which is why on earth did the lorry go such a roundabout way?

(7,949 posts)He made some reasonable observations, the first was anguish at how desperate these people must have been to find themselves in such a horrible position, whether voluntarily or under duress.
He also feared that the traffickers might have preyed on the lack of information among the victims, who may have been told that they'd better get into the UK quick before Brexit happened, even though their situation in the UK would be no worse (or better) after Brexit because they weren't EU citizens (at least as far as we know at the moment).
He didn't say that Brexit caused this, but felt the confusion around it may have been a contributory factor, and did say it would continue after it.
Anyone who tries to capitalize on this as a justification for Brexit will have have to account for the fact there have been suggestions that some cargoes would just be waved through at the border, particularly if a no deal Brexit happened, to cope with the tailbacks. It's unlikely in those circumstances that checks would be more stringent than they are now.

(7,949 posts)A 25-year-old driver from Northern Ireland was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Local police and community sources told the Guardian that the arrested man was believed to be Mo Robinson, from Portadown, County Armagh. Essex police declined to comment.
Robinsons Facebook profile identifies him as a lorry driver and includes pictures of him in a lorrys cab or next to haulage vehicles.

I hope he's going to be under very close security. There are no doubt some extremely shady vested interests involved in all this, and he's just a low-level pawn.
