United Kingdom

How likely is it that Scotland will withdraw from the UK if Johnson's Brexit goes through?
Personally, I'd like to see them do it, if only to point out to Downing Street that bad decisions have consequences.

(4,278 posts)Many people we talked to about unification didn't want it. One guy I knew said "why would we want them fuckers in our government?" . Not to mention people in the Nort (as they pronounce it) would lose a lot in terms of healthcare and other services. Granted, my experience is old and things may have changed.

(9,685 posts)Boris is refusing them an IndyRef2 but if the SNP sweep the boards in the Scottish election in 2021 the mandate will be overwhelming and at that point it is difficult to see that they will not be granted the referendum. However, this does not mean that Scotland would vote to go independent. Polls just before the General Election was 45% to leave. Of course this is before the impact of Brexit is felt at all, so if it is as shit as everyone expects, that % would go up significantly I think.

It would be a strange historical thing if it's Brexit and and Scots leaving Great Britain a little less great are the keys to uniting Ireland.
