Everything we do every single day is about risk management and care to postpone our deaths for as long as possible. Alison Pearson is a right wing shill who does not care that a further lockdown could save the lives of up to 100K citizens. They are going to die an some point anyway, right? So why not let the die now and get it over. Hideous from someone on their privileged perch who is economically secure enough to ride out this new right wing herd immunity bullying tactic. Let the poor die now so the rich can richer.

(2,765 posts)She's the one being anti-science, I wonder if she knows there's been a 8 to 12% increase in deaths in the United States this year. I wonder if she knows of the term premature deaths, which she doesn't seem to be acknowledging because people of all ages are dying prematurely, even older people have a lot of good years left. Your argument about the privileged is especially cogent to me, because the non-privileged don't go to sporting events, don't go out to nice restaurants, don't see a Broadway play, don't fly, and more, so to hear these petulant people whine that their fabulous lives are on hold and they're just so put-upon to me makes them rather obnoxious

Scientific data is just something to be manipulated, distorted and abused. And scientists are automatically viewed by these people with suspicion as somehow ideologically impure. You only need to look at how these know-nothings treat climate science.
Pearson is one of the worse pro-plague gobshites along with the likes of James Delingpole, Toby Young and Peter Hitchens.

For a staunch Republican who pretends to support truth, maybe even deluding themselves into thinking that's their motive, a mental escape for them is to declare modern scientists as influenced more by politics or "tax dollars".

You're just prolonging the inevitability of your death if you don't.
