Oregon and Maryland are making progress on voting bills designed to expand access to the polls. A first-of-its-kind voter registration bill is poised to pass in Oregon next week. It would streamline the process for adding eligible citizens with drivers licenses or other DMV records to voter rolls. The bill, if signed into law, would give Oregon the the most expansive voter registration law in the country next to North Dakota, which doesn't require voters to register at all, according to The Oregonian. http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78631&qid=3779720 Maryland had a legislative hearing this week on a bill aimed at restoring full voting rights http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78607&qid=3779720 for nearly 40,000 Maryland citizens who have a prior felony conviction. Giving these people their vote back will give them and their communities a greater voice in elections and policy making generally, wrote Tomas Lopez. http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78608&qid=3779720 Meanwhile, Georgia could be moving in the opposite direction. In a reprise of last year, Republicans in the House of Representatives are considering a bill that would slash early voting a move that will hurt all voters across the state and make it more difficult for election officials to administer the vote, wrote Jennifer Clark. http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78601&qid=3779720 Read more about all current 2015 voting legislation here http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78554&qid=3779720 and from Slate. http://www.brennancenter.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=78602&qid=3779720
