I listen to the Security Now podcast every week (Steve Gibson, TWIT.TV).

Steve is one of the premier experts worldwide in computer security issues.

He used to recommend no script, but stopped recommending it for exactly the things you are saying.

He now recommends uBlock Origin. My experience is that it seems to do a very good job in blocking ads and trackers.

I was a former NoScript user. I just tried uBlock Origin, and I have to say - it seems to be working great!
