Need help with RAM

My son has a Toshiba Satelliate laptop which, according to the System info in the Control Panel, is model C55D-A.

He has 4 gigs of RAM but wants to jump to 8. I'm guessing that he currently has a pair of 2 gig cards and would need a pair of 4 gig, so I'm hoping to confirm exactly which type to buy.

Unfortunately, a search for Toshiba Satellite C55D-A yields zero results, but it gives about a million results for different model numbers beginning with C55D-A followed by a range of suffix letters and numbers.

Near as I can figure, the type he'll need is DDR3 RAM (1333 MHz), and I'm hoping that someone more knowledgeable can confirm.

1. The actual model number

should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. Most of the major memory makers have utilities on their websites to show which parts are compatible. Here's Kingston's for example.

Does the "15h" make a major difference, or do you suppose that the different flavors of C55D-A use the same type of RAM?

...and use the Crucial Advisor tool about halfway down the main page...

You need to know the manufacturer (Toshiba), the product line (Satellite C55D), and the model (ex. C55D-Axxxx)... you can find the actual model number somewhere on the laptop, usually by the serial number.

Input the information, and the tool will give you information on the exact RAM that you need including maximum RAM capable, pricing and availability.

10. The system scanner on there will check the ram installed and match it.

It will also check for maximum the system allows. You should make sure the system can handle more memory. It should be able to but some of the cheaper laptops are quite limited.

Pretty sure that this one can handle 8 at least, which would be more than adequate for my son's needs.
