What's with these cordless mice? I think I'll go back to corded.
My computer guru suggested, several months ago that I switch to cordless mice for my PC and Laptop. Every time I use them...OK, not every time, but too frequently I have to replace the batteries. I asked at Staples, where I bought them and was told they should last 18 months without a new battery. Nuts! I have to replace them every week or so. I don't use the PC or laptop all day. My use is occasional. This is driving me nuts. Is it me or the nature of the beast? I think I still have my cord mice. I never had a problem before. Are these things useless? My guarantee has expired so if they are defective, my loss. One is Logitec, the other is Microsoft. Phooey!
Your opinion would be appreciated.

(37,540 posts)I think the mouse should turn off if there is no position change detect in a certain time. Sounds like yours doesn't. Should be on/off switch on the bottom that should be able to turn off when not in use.

(7,506 posts)There is still no long term life in either. I use regular batteries, should I be using alkaline?

(18,578 posts)Yes, for sure. I used a wireless mouse every day for about 8 months without changing batteries. Use alkaline.

(60,950 posts)One for my when I am at my desk an docked which is rechargeable. It only needs to go on the charger base once every week.
I have another that uses 2 (2A) alkaline batteries for travel. It stays in my bag unless I travel or work from home. The batteries in that device last for a year or more unless it gets left on in the bag and buttons get pushed all the time.
Both are Logitech

(21,506 posts)Only thing I will buy and the only one that I have that chews through batteries is a gaming mouse that I would expect it from all the others last 6 months easy without ever turning them off.
Are you sure it is the batteries?
Where is the mouse wireless dongle plugged in?

(11 posts)Every week or so sounds really strange. Unless their is a build issue with that particular mouse, the only thing I could guess is that the mouse is trying to connect to other USB dongles in the area. Are you in a secluded work area or surrounded by a bunch of other computers using cordless mice. I'd say just return or exchange this mouse if still possible.

(2 posts)I go cordless at work and at home. Batteries seem to die at the most important moments. Plus the dongle is too easy to loose.
