Access Denied errors on the internet

Firefox forced 48.0.2 on me, and I ran a GoToMeeting on Thursday.

Now I get "Access Denied" errors on senate.gov servers and on some
Indeed.com links

Did a restore to Aug 12, dialed Firefox back to 47, but it's still the same.
Ditched GoToMeeting install too.

This happens in both Firefox and IE9

What do I do to correct this? Any ideas?

I restored to a previous version and then upgraded to the next version

And its happening in IE9 too

Refresh resets to default and removes all add-ons

You think that would work?

it doesn't really fix anything. I would definitely try resetting it.

Sounds like you have an infection to me. But then I don't have a whole lot to go on.

6. If it is happening in IE as well you should reset your IE as well.

firefox uses IE network settings.

Do the IE then the firefox then see if it is fixed.

7. A fast and easy program to do a quick cleanup is ADWcleaner

it wont get everything but it will usually get the worst offenders.

I have run AVG, no problems
and Malwarebytes, no problems
and adwcleaner, it removed a lot of things, but the Access Denied problems remain

I did not reset IE9, it's a lot of work to reinstall and reset everything

My phone line was dead about a week ago, internet worked fine (it's not FIOS),
and Verizon probably rerouted some local cable pairs to fix the phone. But this
problem didn't show up for almost a week

but the Access Denied message is still there. I get it with all
Senate.gov links.

To work around this issue, add the Web site that is affected to the Trusted sites security zone in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

is senate.gov the only place you see this?

And it is the same in both IE and firefox/chrome?

14. Yes I added it as a trusted site, same in both

I don't think it's the only site, I had a link on Indeed.com last night
that did the same thing in both browsers. But today that link is no
longer on Indeed.

This is very strange. Everything else is working fine as far as I can tell,
I tested a few random things just now.

And I can access it easily from an anonymous browser, Guardster. Goes
through just fine.

Isn't that weird?

19. Oh yes, did that yesterday or this morning

Ran Glary Utilities. And Index.dat. And rebooted several times along the way.


I just grabbed the IP from command prompt 69.172.201.153, and it would not accept this service

So I converted the IP to decimal and tried that 1168951705. It gives a list from Google search.

None of these mention anything to do with the Government.

When I Google my senator and click on his government link, it's still Access Denied.

So I'm thinking for some reason this address on my computer, or perhaps my
ISP server, is associated with something other than what it is supposed to be.

Really don't have more time to deal with this, just hope my normal sites are available
during the week.

22. That's really strange.

Possibly the govt. offices you're trying to reach have just added a security enhancement that's incompatible with Vista, if you've previously been able to access them but can't now, but in cases like that, there's usually some kind of message. And Vista's not that old. Also Senators need to be accessible to their constituents and wouldn't want to throw up random barriers which makes me think it's some kind of virus. Have you Googled the exact wording of the error?

are you using a vpn or anything like that?

I assume you are on XP is it updated with the latest patches? Maybe I will put up an xp machine and test it.

This is an odd one. My guess at this point is the site is looking for security that XP does not provide.

Oh yes, I'm in Pennsylvania, ordinary high speed internet Verizon.

VPN, no. Wouldn't have the slightest idea
what it is or how to use one.

I am on Vista, totally up to date.

Time and date are fine.

I don't have Chrome.

The PC is working a little faster tonight, that was a really good registry cleaner you recommended.

it often gets things malwarebytes misses.

Malwarebytes is very good as well though.

do you have chrome on your machine? If so can you access it from a chrome incognito window?

23. It's 10 days later

and I can access Sanders.gov now, no problems

But eBay Thumbnails from Watch list are blank for several days.

My internet routes through 3 small cities. Every time colleges open or
close for the semester, my internet goes batty. Early May? Disconnects.
Late August? Disconnects. Every few hours I'm disconnected. Have to reboot
the router. It's not too bad in December, but late Jan same thing.

Other times it can go weeks or months without disconnects. Never get any
explanation from ISP. All I get is tech support Calcutta.
