And you can do more with it than you might think. I found ways to add captions to stills and titles and/or credits to movies by searching YouTube videos. And how to mix stills and videos for a more complete end product. Some of the videos are for older versions, but much of the functionality is still in the program.

If you have some non-MP4 videos that have to be converted (I ended up with Quick Time and AVI files, some of which would not import into Movie Maker) there are free video converters available. I've been using Win HD Video Converter Deluxe freebie - but it is limited as to length for the free one.

If you need fancier editing - though Movie Maker does have ways to edit clips - you can get Sony Movie Studio 13 for under $50 from BuyCheapSoftware.com. That gives you much more complete editing and audio control than Movie Maker.

...was the last version to ship with an MPEG-2 license, required for burning a DVD in MPEG-TS format. Windows 8/8.1 dropped this license. I'm not sure about Win 10, but I have to assume that since they were giving it away, the strip that feature from the product too.

Here is a link to some other options, though I cannot comment or support any one of them.

I've made a couple of decent DVDs but nothing fancy.

Maybe I'll get the Sony video editor. I had an earlier version and liked it but my old WinXP computer wasn't up to the processing needed.
