My turn to bestow a tip, payback or all the help I've gotten here. It's about gmail
Starting with the punchline of the tip first: signing into secondary or more gmail accounts must be done in Google Chrome, not in Edge.
Here's the context: In the past couple of weeks, with pleas for help here, I was in a mishmash involving 1) Whether my 7 yrs old laptop is dying, 2) whether to use Carbonite to transition to a new machine, and 3) somehow ending up with inability to sign-into a secondary gmail account from this laptop (but ABLE to on the phone and on the Kindle).
So today went back to the impossible Google website to try the secondary account again, and got the same non-results. I called a Support number and the menu ran through some things but ended in saying that if this is about gmail you should go to the website. So I called some other Support number, which was not for support, and managed to get this number:
855-836-3987
And actually got a bit of Support: I told him the problem, that I could not get into actual e-mail for the secondary account, could only get to MyAccount that is NOT e-mail, is only about MANAGING the accounts for Preferences and Privacy and Passwords. And that I could get into the mail for both accounts on the android phone, but only the e-mail for the primary account on the laptop.
We had some kinks in communication, like he asked me "What kind of laptop do you have?" I was stumped at the question, like what KIND OF LAPTOP?!1 He said, "Is your laptop on Windows or Mac?" I said, OH, so the question is what operating system, NOT what kind of LAPTOP?!1 So then he asked whether I wanted to change my password or whether I was using Google Chrome. I said, no no, no, that I was using Edge on the laptop. He asked whether I wanted to install Google Chrome.
So that's when the light bulb went on. The android phone and Kindle use Google Chrome. I said, Are you saying that I can only choose what gmail e-mail to access on Chrome? And he said, YES, that Edge has COMPATABILITY PROBLEMS with Google.
I told him I have Chrome on the laptop but have never used it. So, I went into Chrome and SIGNED IN to the secondary E-MAIL gmail account!!!!!!!!!!!1

(72,402 posts)It was very buggy for me, ended with frequent frozen screens, and seemingly letting in bad pages. Finally, I ditched it. I had never gone outside of Windows before, had been only on IE. Edge has some kinks and inconveniencies, like not being able to delete individual cookies, but nowhere near the problems Firefox gave me.
